What is E-grade Nitrocellulose ?

Nitrocellulose is a highly flammable compound composed of nitrating cellulose through exposure to a mixture of nitric acid and sulfuric acid. According to nitrogen content, Nitrocellulose is divided into three different groups: A-grades Nitrocellulose, AM-grades Nitrocellulose, and E-grades Nitrocellulose.

Nitrocellulose with nitrogen content in the range of 11.8 up to 12.3 is categorized as E Grade. E- Grade Nitrocellulose is characteristic with good solubility in ester-type solvents (up to 100 %) and limited solubility in ethyl alcohol (4 – 20 %). It forms hard films with good mechanical properties.

Properties of E-Grades:

ArChem E-Grade Nitrocellulose (RS grade) gives wooden furniture, metal products, and cosmetics excellent protection. It is suitable for the wood, coating, paper, and painting industries. Properties of E-Grades Nitrocellulose include:
