What is Methanol?


Methanol(also known as methyl alcohol and wood alcohol) is an organic solvent with the formula of CH3OH. It is one of the basic chemicals and is used to produce many other chemical products Such as different solvents, fuels, and antifreezes.

Methanol Applications

Methanol is industrially produced by carbon monoxide hydrogenation in the presence of copper-zinc catalysts.

Plus, regarding the excess hydrogen, carbon dioxide is injected into the methanol synthesis reactor and it reacts to form methanol according to the:

CO2 + 3 H2 → CH3OH + H2O
